The Colored Pencil Project donated colored pencils to children in Haiti this March. They are also collaborating with Corey to plan a trip to Haiti to distribute 1,000 more boxes of colored pencils to children around Haiti.

yoga-kids-logoYogakids is an amazing organization in the United States, focused on training yoga teachers who then facilitate yoga classes for children. Bridge of Diamond’s is Yogakid’s nonprofit side working in Haiti since February 2011 to bring the practice of yoga to children in the western hemisphere’s poorest country.

Corey Gifford, Clinical Psychology Doctoral Student, has been consulting with Yogakids about their work in Haiti since before their first trip. Corey coordinated and HAC Haiti hosted their Foundation Training in August 2011. Don Wenig (Founder of Yogakids), Eva Hall (from Germany), and Lia Nikolaev (from Canada) did an excellent job training local teachers at HAC-Haiti. Through training, teachers were empowered with skills that correlated directly to classroom instruction. The skills they attained through the training are pivotal tools in the classroom.

In March, along with continued teacher training at HAC Haiti Don and Corey went to Jacmel to explore the possibilities of expanding their trainings and programs there. Corey and Transparency for Haiti hopes to continue working with Yogakids and Bridge of Diamonds; they currently are planning trips for possibly May and July of this year. Our plan is to spread healthy programs for kids within Haiti.

As plans cultivate, we will post information and pictures on this web page. We look forward to further collaboration with Yogakids and Bridge of Diamonds in Haiti.
